Texas man sentenced to 20 years on child sex charges in Logan County

SPRINGFIELD (WEEK) -- A Texas man was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Logan County Tuesday after pleading guilty to distribution of child pornography and sexual assault of a minor.

Javier Joiner, 25, of Arlington, Texas, was arrested in December 2018 after an investigation by the Illinois State Police and Lincoln Police Department.

According to a release by the ISP, Joiner, an over-the-road truck driver met a 15 year old female on social media and picked her up in Texas in September 2018. He continued in a relationship with her through December 2018, when the two traveled through multiple states.

During the time Joiner was with the juvenile, he allegedly "photographed and video recorded sexual acts between himself and the juvenile and distributed the images via an electronic communication device," according to the release.

On December 6, 2018, the juvenile was left on Interstate 55 near Lincoln when Joiner allegedly assaulted her when she tried to end the relationship, according to the release. She was interviewed by the ISP and then placed with the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services.

Joiner later contacted the juvenile to meet in Lincoln to pick her up. Joiner was arrested after being located by ISP and LPD officers on I-55.

As part of his sentencing, he must serve 50 percent of the sentence, and three years of mandatory supervised release.

Joiner well need to register as a sex offender for the rest of his natural life, according to the release.

“This case highlights the dangers of young people meeting strangers on social media. The victim, in this case, showed extreme courage by escaping from her abuser and coming forward to talk with law enforcement. This sentence clearly shows that the horrific acts committed by Joiner will not be tolerated.
