SPRINGFIELD (WEEK) -- Two area parks are getting around half a million dollars each for improvements from state grants.
Gov. JB Pritzker's office announced Friday that $29.7 million in grants were awarded to Illinois parks.
The Peoria Park District will receive $526,000 for improvements to Forest Park Nature Center and the Pekin Park District will receive $400,000 for Mineral Springs Park.
The grants are funded by the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development program.
“Investments in local park projects are good for families and recreation enthusiasts, helping them enjoy outdoor activities and making Illinois communities better places to live and work,” Governor Pritzker said. “Parks projects also boost local economic development efforts and spur additional investment throughout the state.”
