CHICAGO (WEEK) - Two more recreational, adult use cannabis dispensaries have been approved by the state.
- Rise - Quincy on Broadway St.
- The Green Solution - Sauget on Goose Lake Rd. (near St. Louis)
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation announced the new licenses Wednesday. Both businesses are already medical cannabis dispensaries, but there's a small difference in how each license was distributed.
At Rise in Quincy, they received a Secondary Site license. That means they will likely open a new location for their recreational cannabis store.
In Sauget, The Green Solution received a Same Site license. That means their medical and recreational products will be sold in the same existing building.
Those licenses are in effect immediately.
The IDFPR said this brings up the total number of adult use cannabis licenses approved to 48.
The state is anticipating more applications. The Green Solution has a location in Normal and Rise has a location in Canton (already licensed).
Next week, Normal's zoning board will have a hearing about whether to allow The Green Solution to be zoned for recreational adult use cannabis.
The state plans to give out up to 75 new licenses to be announced May 1st.
