Illinois House GOP members again take aim at Pritzker’s ‘property tax relief task force’

SPRINGFIELD (WJBC) -- The legislature still wants to do something about property taxes, which are really controlled at the local level.

Our news partner WJBC reports, House Republicans from central Illinois held a news conference at the Capitol Tuesday to reiterate their displeasure with a “property tax relief task force” which, they say, was strictly Democrat-driven.

State Rep. Dan Brady (R-Bloomington) says there must be some movement on the state level, then a conversation with local leaders.

“We have eased off unfunded mandates,” Brady said. “Now it’s your job to make sure those local property taxes can come down. We all understand the cost of education and where a big chunk of that property tax goes. But the reality is, if we can help, they have to pick up with the resources and tools we give them to try to help those homeowners.”

With the exception of the Senate president’s election Jan. 19, the legislature is back in session Jan. 28.
