If the Murray Baker Bridge on Interstate 74 is part of your regular commute, you probably noticed heavy traffic from lane closures this week. This week's construction is just a taste of what is to come when the bridge is completely shutdown in late March.
25 News chose to look at ways to get from Morton to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. We came up with four routes you could take when minutes count.
March 29th is the date that everyone needs to remember. That is the day the Murray Baker will close to all traffic in both directions, remaining closed through October.
Current driving time to travel from downtown Morton to OSF is about 15 minutes, and that factors in when the bridge was to down to one lane in either direction.
Here are your other options:
- The Bob Michel Bridge. Use exit 94 toward downtown Peoria and continuing on to William Kumpf Blvd once your downtown. That takes about 17 minutes, with light traffic.
- The Cedar Street Bridge. Get off at exit 96 in East Peoria and after taking Campt to Main and then Main past Kroger, exit for IL Route 116 W, that's the bridge. After crossing the river, turn on right Adams. The trip will take about 20 minutes.
- 474. Take interstate 474 around to exit 6b for Adams Street. That route clocks in at 22 minutes
- McClugage Bridge. Take Main Street in East Peoria past the casino, crossing the bridge. Once you enter Peoria, exit onto Adams, eventually getting onto Jackson. You'll be at OSF within 23 minutes.
It's important to note -- these traffic times are based off of travel time from January 14. These times may change once the bridge is completely closed.
