BLOOMINGTON (WEEK) – The New Year finds one couple in the Twin Cities desperate for a gift from an organ donor.

Roughly a dozen signs line the roadway of Bloomington as one woman took this message to the street to try and find someone who will provide a kidney for her husband Taj, 71.

Any time the phone rings, they hope it’s the answer to their prayers.

Right now, he has painful gout in his legs and he’s on dialysis.

“So, this is the tough part,” said Nisha Mohammed. “He needs a day to recover from that and the next day he goes again.”

“So, it’s like a vicious cycle. And that is his only hope of living right now.”

They’ve encouraged others to use social media to further spread the word – and Nisha said people are amazing.

It’s been a three-year journey, so far.

If they can get a kidney from a donor with O+ blood, they’ll have the surgery at OSF in Peoria.
