PEORIA (WEEK) -- The caretaker of an elderly Peoria woman has been arrested for murder, after the woman died in a Peoria hospital Tuesday.
It started around 2:30 AM on Dec. 3, when Peoria Police were called to the 500 block or NE Monroe on a report of a 75-year-old woman breathing but not conscious.
The woman, now identified as Sandra Jackson, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Shortly after her arrival to the hospital, detectives were notified that Jackson's injuries appeared consistent with elder abuse.
The investigation led Peoria Police to question Jackson's roommate and caretaker, Dmitri G. Rogatchev, 41.
They soon arrested Rogatchev for aggravated domestic battery.
She was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon.
The Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Jackson died of severe intracranial hemorrhages in her brain due to blunt force trauma.
Harwood says Jackson's injuries consistent with "inflicted trauma," and her death has been ruled a homicide.
Rogatchev now faces an additional charge of first-degree murder in addition to aggravated battery.
Peoria Police are still investigating the incident, and ask any information on the matter be reported to them (309-673-4521) or to Crimestoppers (309-673-9000).
Jackson's death marks the 23rd homicide in Peoria in 2019.
