Vehicle stolen with infant inside, police searching for suspect

PEORIA (WEEK) — Peoria police are searching for a suspect involved with stealing a vehicle while an infant was inside Sunday morning.

The vehicle was then located less than an hour later with the child safely inside.

At about 9:45 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle with an infant inside in the 2400 block of North Dechman. Officers learned the vehicle had been left running outside with the 6-month-old infant inside, according to a release by the Peoria Police Department.

The vehicle was then located at about 10:30 a.m. in an alley on the 300 block of East Gift, with the child located inside.

A Code Red alert was issued to alert residents of the incident, but it was cancelled when the child was found safely, according to the release.

A K-9 search of the area was completed, but no information was able to be obtained.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the suspect, who was described as a black male wearing a gray hoodie.
