PEORIA (WEEK) – Peoria has a new method to ensure young children stay away from starting fires.
And it’s partially paid for by Illinois American Water.
“Milo and Moxie” is the name and it was put together in Arizona.
Illinois American Water gave the Peoria Fire Department $1,000 to buy the materials intended for Pre-K to second grade.
The department’s fire prevention leader says its something that has become even more important now, due to budget cuts, meaning firefighters just can’t make the important classroom visits they once did.
“We can actually give these materials to the teacher and the teacher will teach the fire safety and home safety in the class,” said Division Chief Stan Taylor.
The books were put together by the Arizona Burn Foundation.
Taylor said he liked the way they were so easy to read and understand.
