Illinois Wesleyan sees 20th, first female president

BLOOMINGTON (WEEK) – Illinois Wesleyan University has a new leader.

Dr. Georgia Nugent was named the university’s 20th president Thursday – she’s also the first woman to hold that position.

But Nugent is used to being “the first.”

She was the first woman to lead the two previous higher education institutions she was at.

Nugent has been interim president since August, but said she was still surprised to hear the news.

There are about 1,700 students at IWU.
