TAZEWELL COUNTY (WEEK) — A Tazewell County judge has sentenced a man convicted of brutally beating a former girlfriend to probation, again.
Brian Washburn was convicted of domestic battery in 2016 and sentenced to probation.
But Tuesday he was back in front of Judge Michael Risinger for violating those terms by going to a bar and consuming alcohol.
According to Washburn’s defese attorney, Joseph Borsberry, he could have faced 7 years in prison.
Instead, Judge Risinger opted for a more “intense” probation, finding Washburn had successfully completed alcohol treatment programs, regularly attended AA meetings, and undergone regular counseling.
As part of his new probation, Washburn must continue attending AA meetings, stay out of bars, and wear a GPS monitoring device for the next 30 months.
