There’s a relatively new barbecue joint in Peoria, and it’s quite unique!
In this week’s You Gotta Eat, Meteorologist Jesse Guinn takes us to Dac’s Smokehouse in Peoria, and he’s joined this time by morning anchor Luke Burdsall.
When you walk into Dac’s Smokehouse, you’ll immediately be hit with the savory, sweet smell of the wood smokers; but, Matt White, owner of Dac’s says the credit does not start there.
“High quality ingredients as locally sourced as possible,” said White. “It’s important, and it shows on the plate.”
“I always gravitate back to the pulled pork, said Daniel Musisi, a repeat customer, who added “everything I’ve had here was great.”
So what’s the typical “go-to”?
“The fan favorite is the brisket,” said White. “We do it three or four different ways, and every way that we do it, it’s in the top ten selling in the restaurant.”
What did we indulge in?
As a barbecue connoisseur the brisket sounded all too tempting to Luke.
He went for the “prime brisket sandwich”, and opted for some coleslaw on the bun.
For his two sides that came with the meal, you can’t go wrong with some hand-cut fries and potato salad!
Me? I just couldn’t resist the ribs! I only went for the half-rack, but I still had left-overs!
I swapped my two sides for one larger side of mac n’ cheese.
They have five different types to chose from!
The portabella mushroom mac was calling my name.
If you’re the type to drench your food in sauce, you’re in luck!
Every sauce in house is home-made.
How about a “strawberry bliss” flavored BBQ sauce.
“I think talent is our secret, said White, adding, “Having the right people to execute, [then getting] that onto the plate.”
How much did it run us?
BETWEEN both OF US, WE ONLY ENDED UP SPENDING 32.05. NOT BAD FOR SOME QUALITY SMOKED BARBECUE!
“Definately a good bang for your buck,” said Musisi. “You can tell the meats are quality.”
Dac’s Smokehouse is open Monday through Saturday 10:30 AM to 9 PM.
They are located in Peoria’s Campustown on West Main, next to Bradley University.
Dac’s hasn’t actually been around that long, and they only moved to the Campustown location a few months ago.
