Washington woman dies in Wednesday morning crash

UPDATE 6:05 p.m.: The driver of the vehicle where Linda A Bedwell was a passenger, Jerry R. Bedwell, 76, was transported by ambulance to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi-tractor trailer, Francis J. Wesselhoff, 47, of Gridley, was transported by ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the Illinois State Police, preliminary details indicate the passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on Spring Creek Road at the intersection of McClugage Road when it failed to yield to traffic on McClugage Road.

WASHINGTON (WEEK) — A Washington woman died Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash on McCluggage Road in Washington.

Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley said Linda A. Bedwell, 74, died at the scene.

At about 9:15 a.m., police responded to a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a semi truck on McCluggage Road, just north of the intersection of Spring Creek Road.

Bedwell, the passenger of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene at 10:06 a.m.

The driver of the passenger vehicle and the semi-tractor trailer were transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

Responding to the incident was the Washington Fire Department, Washington Police Department, Northern Tazewell Fire Department, Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police.
