UPDATE: Woman fatally shot in the head on Peoria’s south side, marking city’s 20th homicide

UPDATE: 4:26 p.m. – Peoria County Coroner, Jamie Harwood, has identified the woman shot and killed on Peoria’s south side Sunday afternoon.

The woman’s name is Jaylin Jenae Williams of Peoria. She was 24-years-old. Harwood said she was pronounced dead at 12:46 p.m. in the 2400 block of West Starr St. where the shooting happened.

Her autopsy is scheduled for Monday, but the coroner said she was shot in the head.

UPDATE: 3:00 p.m. – Peoria Police have more information about a fatal shooting Sunday afternoon on the south side.

In a press release, police said they were called to the area of Starr and Griswold around 12:20 p.m. about a fight in the street. That is where police said they found a woman in her mid-twenties shot in the head.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police added the woman’s identity will be released by the coroner after her autopsy.

Police are looking for information about this crime and they’re asking for any residential camera video someone might have. They are asking anyone with tips or video to call PPD at 309-673-4521. You can also contact CrimeStoppers anonymously at 309-673-9000. 


PEORIA  – Peoria Police Spokeswoman Amy Dotson says officers were called to Griswald and Starr in Peoria Sunday Afternoon for a shooting.

Dotson says a report of a “fight in the street” alerted officers.

The unidentified victim was shot at least once. She was confirmed dead at the scene by Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.

As far as police believe, no one else was injured.
