34th Annual Coats for Kids program underway

PEORIA (WEEK) – Autumn is here and one organization is hosting it’s 34th annual coat drive and giveaway.

The Neighborhood House in Peoria will be collecting new or gently used coats from infant to 4XL.

The drive goes from now until October 24th. There will be a giveaway to all those who need them before the cold weather arrives, especially for kids.

“We host an after school program and when it starts to get a little chilly we see so many kids without coats on,” according to Bryna Ryan, community outreach and special events coordinator for The Neighborhood House. “So we’re excited to give those away at the end of October before the cold weather really hits so that they are prepared for winter.”

Ryan added that last year the organization received over 400 coats.

Coats will be given out from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and you must provide ID and proof of guardianship for each child receiving a coat.

Donations are accepted at 1020 S. Matthew St. in Peoria.
