NORMAL (WEEK) — Normal may not have a professional sports team, but they do have a world champion in chili.
Lloyd Weir brought home the home-style chili title from the 2019 Chili World Championship in Ankeny, IA last weekend.
Weir was up against more than 400 competitors in the weekend-long cook-off.
The home-style chili was one of four categories, and winning meant Weir took home a trophy and $20,000.
“I knew i had a good batch of chili,” Weir said, “But you’re always surprised when they call your name. And it was the last one they called for that category so I got up to the stage really fast.”
Weir has competed a few times before and placed, but this is his first Chili Championship win.
