East Peoria students welcomed back to school by parents, armadillo

EAST PEORIA (WEEK) – Students walking back to their classrooms at Lincoln School in East Peoria were met with a surprise lining the hallways.

100 caring adults lined the hallways to cheer the students on as they returned for another school year.

The group didn’t include just parents – members of the East Peoria City Council, police department and the Texas Roadhouse mascot greeted students.

“I think it’s important for the students to know it’s just not their teachers – their principal here at the school that care about them – there are so many others outside these walls that really support them, care about how they’re doing,” said principal Nikki Combs.

“I’m so glad, cause you know kids can have a little anxiety, but when I saw her walking up the thing, she had a smile on her face,” said parent Gina Robinson.

Combs said showing students this kind of love and support is “priceless.”
