Unit 5 gives backpacks away to students in need

BLOOMINGTON (WEEK) – Unit 5 in Bloomington celebrated the approaching first day of school with a backpack giveaway.

Students in need in Pre-K through eighth were able to receive school supplies and backpacks.

All of the items were the result of community donations through the back to school alliance.

“Kids learning and getting an education is the key to getting them out of poverty and being able to sustain themselves,” said Taunia Lefler, Unit 5 schoolboard member. “And education is so important.”

More than 3,000 backpacks were passed out to pre-k through eighth graders today.

High school students needing supplies can call their guidance counselors.

Unit 5 schools start this Friday.
