Goodwill of Central Illinois wants to let the public know that they are not laying off any workers with disabilities.
This comes on the heels of a report from WICS in Springfield that has since been picked up by another local news outlet.
That report says the Land of Lincoln Goodwill can no longer afford to pay workers with disabilities due to the minimum wage increase set to start in January 2020.
However, Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois is making it clear that those layoffs are in the Springfield area: not here.
“We have people with disabilities in our systems, some of them have been with us for years and get pay raises each year,” Don Johnson, the CEO and President of Goodwill of Central Illinois says, “No, we’re not going to terminate them.”
Goodwill of Central Illinois covers a territory from Pekin to Interstate 80, while the Land of Lincoln Goodwill, which is laying off workers, covers Springfield and Southern Illinois.
