25 News is digging deeper into the recent spike in River City Violence after outcries and unanswered pleas to the community for tips on murder victims continue to go unanswered.

A panel comprised of 14 local community activists, city leaders, members of law enforcement and residents weighed in on topics including Police-Community relations, family structure, calls to action, and community involvement.

So far in 2019 there have been 11 Peoria homicides. Six of the victims were under the age of 25, including one 4-year-old shot outside a family member’s home and a 16-year-old shot to death and found in a driveway. Both happened within an exact month.

In 2018 there were a total of 22 homicides and the city didn’t see the 11th one until July.

Based on statistics from the city’s website on the actual number of shotspotter alerts averaged every week, along with alarming numbers of a 214% increase in juvenile crimes so far this year, Peoria is on track to have their deadliest year to date.
