The Knox County Sheriff has released the names of two people killed in a house explosion in Rapatee on Sunday, June 9.
Wanda Swain, age 77, and her son David Swain Jr., 51, were both found in the debris of the home and pronounced dead at the scene.
The mother and son were the only people inside the home at the time of the blast, which leveled the Route 97 home and sent debris flying hundreds of yards away.
The explosion also caused “extensive” damage to a neighboring home, as well as blowing out windows on several other nearby properties.
The investigation into the cause of the explosion is ongoing, but the Illinois State Fire Marshal believes it to be accidental.
