BREAKING: One dead – five injured after car accident on route 116

UPDATE: Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood has identified the victim as Jozcelyn Lesones, 18, of Elmwood.

Harwood reports she was waiting to turn into her parents driveway when a pickup truck hit her from behind.

Note: Harwood initially reported Lesones as being 19 years old, then corrected to 18. The original story has been changed to reflect the correction.

A woman has been killed and several others are injured after a multi-car accident on Route 116 Saturday morning.

The Peoria County Sheriff said that it occurred at approximately 11:30 A.M. at 21400 Block of Route 116, just west of Stone School Road.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash with a total of six occupants. One, only identified as a 18 year old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other five victims are being treated at local hospitals. The extent of their injuries are unknown.

Sheriff Asbell said the preliminary investigation has lead them to believe the at fault driver rear ended the deceased drivers vehicle who was slowing down to make a turn in to a driveway. Both of those vehicles were headed westbound. An eastbound car then collided with the two other cars after the initial crash.
