UPDATE: Kirk Zimmerman found not guilty in 2014 murder of ex-wife

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WEEK) — A McLean County jury has found Kirk Zimmerman not guilty in the 2014 murder of his ex-wife, Pamela.

Prosecutors had argued Zimmerman killed his ex-wife to avoid paying child support. However, the jury rejected that argument.

The jury came out with its verdict just before 2:30 p.m. Monday after about 8 hours of deliberations.

In a statement released to media following the verdict, Kirk Zimmerman said jurors were asked to convict “despite a lack of real physical evidence; despite problematic evidence collection techniques; despite flawed analyses of my finances (laughably so) and telematics (the device manufacturer stated what the expert claimed to do was impossible); and despite multiple attempts by investigators to sway the jury with evidence recreation videos.”

Zimmerman then continued to highlight certain evidence he saw as flawed.

“We have seen breakdowns in our local legal system in the Beaman case, the Whalen case, and now this case. As the trial revealed, I was treated as the only real suspect from the start, at the virtual exclusion of others in Pam’s life. This community deserves, and should demand, more from its public servants.
