Peoria, Ill. (WEEK) – We’re finally into Spring but local groups are already thinking about keeping kids busy this Summer. Align Peoria works to create resources for Peoria Public Schools students to keep them productive even when school is out.
Monday, the group held “The Monday Gathering” meeting to share resources and talk about upcoming events to engage youth in structured programs.
“Summer is just a couple weeks away and we’ve already begun to see some violence tick up in our community. We want to make sure we are providing safe and structured resources and organizations that they can plug into this summer,” said Marcia Bolden, Executive Director of Align Peoria.
With the help of volunteers, Align Peoria guides students into jobs and even prepares them for future jobs.
The group says they’ve served more than 5,700 students since they started more than two years ago.
They are still looking for volunteers to help with their program.
