PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK) — Richard Pryor Jr. will visit his hometown on his birthday to talk about his new book about growing up with his famous comedian father.
Pryor will read excerpts from his book, In a Pryor Life, and sign book at Bradley University’s Michel Student Center Atrium from 4-7 p.m. on April 10.
Pryor was born premature in Peoria in 1962 to Richard Pryor and his first wife, Patricia Watts. He was raised by his mother and grandparents in Peoria while his father was away on tour, and got involved in performance while in sixth grade.
After stints in acting, the U.S. Navy, ministerial work, bartending, and telecommunications, Pryor decided to relaunch his acting career in 2005 after the death of his father.
The book is described as a hilarious, raw and “brutally revealing” biography of Pryor’s life as the first-born son of his famous father, also a Peoria native.
The April 10 event is free to the public.
