BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WEEK) — State Rep. Tom Bennett (R-Gibson City) is recovering in a Bloomington hospital after a serious car accident Thursday evening.
A spokesman for the Illinois House Republicans said Bennett broke 10 ribs, six in multiple places in the car accident. He is receiving treatment at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, where he is expected to remain for a few days recovering.
“Tom is known by his House Republican colleagues as one of the hardest working members of the House. In fact, after the accident he was most concerned about his legislative paperwork that was engulfed in the flames. Please keep him in your thoughts as he recovers,” said the spokesman.
The well-wishes for Bennett stretched across the political aisle, with state Rep. Michael Zalewski (D-Chicago) tweeting his hopes for a quick recovery.
Tom’s one of the nicest guys in the House. We need him to heal up ASAP. https://t.co/AzNAUdSuTR
