OTTAWA, Ill. (WEEK) — A teenager was found guilty by a jury Thursday of the 2018 murder of a Streator mother of three.
Tamil Adams, 17, was found guilty of the May 22, 2018 shooting death of Maria de la Torre, 33, of Streator.
“We sincerely hope this assists the family of Maria Delatorre in finding closure,” said the Streator Police Department in a Facebook post.
“She was a selfless person that cared so much about others and would give her last. She was an amazing person. Her smile lit up the whole room anywhere she went,” said her family in her obituary.
After the shooting, a chase of the suspect’s vehicle ensued in Livingston County. The vehicle crashed, and arrests were later made in the Dwight area.
Ashanti Roberts, 22, is also charged in connection with de la Torre’s murder. She is due back in court for a status hearing on Feb. 14. Hashim Waite, 25, is also due back in court on Feb. 22 in connection with the case.
Adams is set for sentencing on April 4 in LaSalle County.
