Bond was set at $3 million Wednesday for a 20-year-old man charged in the slaying of a Princeville couple.
Matthew Roberts, 20, of Princeville, is charged with first degree murder, obstruction of justice and concealment of a homicidal death in the deaths of Susan Brill de Ramirez and Antonio Ramirez Barron. Both worked at Bradley University in Peoria.
A Peoria County Sheriff’s deputy said Roberts confessed. Roberts reportedly said he and Jose Ramirez, the couple’s son, spoke of killing the couple in the past. Roberts allegedly held the baseball bat the two may have used to strike Ramirez and Barron.
Ramirez and Roberts allegedly dropped the bodies over a bridge into the Spoon River, north of Laura.
Both Ramirez and Roberts could face life in prison if convicted. Both are due back in Peoria County Court on Nov. 29.
