Coffee fans, raise your lattes!
With September 29th declared National Coffee Day, hundreds of Peoria residents headed out to enjoy a cup of joe. While baristas were busy brewing up espressos, OSF Dietician Kaela Ketcham gave her insight into the surprise health benefits that many coffee drinkers may not be aware of.
“Having a moderate amount of coffee a day, so that ranges anywhere from 3 to 5 cups per day, can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and even some cancers.” Ketcham said.
Despite the positive health benefits, several residents admit they’re more concerned about the energy that coffee gives them.
“I come in and drink coffee because I like the feeling it gives me. It picks me up otherwise I`m dragging at work.” shared one coffee lover while waiting for cup at CXT.
Experts add that coffee not only plays a part in preventing life-threatening diseases, but it also works to better your immune system.
Ketcham reminds coffee lovers “It contains antioxidants that help give our bodies that protective effect. Coffee also contains other nutrients like vitamins, Potassium, Niacin, and Magnesium which are also very beneficial for our health.”
