Six local students graduate college before high school

Imagine having your college degree in your hands before your high school diploma.

That was the reality for six teenagers from Abingdon-Avon High School. The students have participated in a dual credit program with Carl Sandburg College for the past two years, earning enough credits to earn Associate of Arts degrees while also maintaining their high school workloads.

The dual graduates include Lauren Stephens, who will go on to Eastern Illinois University to study dietetics; Taylor Ginther, who will go to Monmouth College to study business; Shelby Beil, who will study forensic investigation at the University of Wisconsin at Platteville; Dalton Ross, who will go to Methodist College to study nursing; Jaron Postin, who will study engineering at Bradley University; and Jack Landers, who will study advertising at Butler University.
