Explosion demolishes empty Peoria business building

Peoria fire crews got a rough start to the weekend after a vacant storefront exploded in the early morning hours Saturday.

Officials say a one-story commercial building in the 1500 block of W. Antoinette blew up around 1:17AM Saturday, September 29th.

By the time crews arrived, the remaining structure was fully engulfed in flames.

After the main fire was put out, a demolition crew was called in to help remove debris so embers could be doused.

Ameren gas crews were on scene, but have not yet determined a cause.
